Dr. Suren Gigoyan is an adjunct assistant professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo and a senior scientist at MMSENSE Technologies Inc., Canada. His research interests include Millimeter and THz electronics, sensing for biological and medical applications. Dr. Gigoyan has authored over 130 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and holds 6 international patents. He co-supervises Ph.D. and master's students and is a senior member of IEEE.
During his tenure at the University of Waterloo, Dr. Gigoyan has worked on several innovative projects. In 2010, he focused on counterfeit tablet detection, developing a spectrometer capable of identifying counterfeit Viagra tablets. His pioneering work continued in 2013 with the development of a sniffer device for detecting skin melanoma. Dr. Gigoyan has also made significant contributions to passive phase shifter development for phased array systems. Notably, he innovated a spectrometer capable of detecting diabetes using human breath exhaled gas. Currently, his research involves protein detection in human blood
