Sebastian Ratto Valderrama

Sebastián Ratto Valderrama was born in Valdivia, Chile, in 1992. He is a naval officer with 11 years of service in the Chilean Navy. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Naval Electronics Engineering in 2022 from the Academia Politécnica Naval, where he developed a prototype for jamming commercial drones. After graduating, he served aboard the LAM-31 Chipana from 2022 to 2024, collaborating with companies like DTS and SISDEF to modernize the ship's systems.

Sebastián is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo, under the supervision of Dr. Omar Ramahi and Dr. George Shaker. His interests include radar systems, Electronic Support Measures (ESM), and communication systems. He is also very passionate about developing a space initiative within the Chilean Navy, with a long-term goal of launching CubeSat projects and enhancing maritime surveillance through satellite technology.
